Lilly pitches good but Cubs come up short in loss

Ted Lilly pitched another good game, going seven innings but the a late home run by Preston Wilson and a baserunning mistake cost the Cubs the opener against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Going into today’s game, Braden Looper and Ted LIlly were pretty evenly matched. The Cubs took the lead early, but a seventh inning two-run homerun by Preston Wilson gave the Cards the lead.

The Cubs had a chance in the bottom of the ninth, but a bad baserunning mistake by Ronny Cedeno cost the Cubs an out.

In other notes, Alfonso Soriano could be back early next week. Bob Dernier has joined the Cubs bench to help the position players with baserunning.

The Cubs Jason Marquis faces off against his former team tomorrow at 3:55  EST. The game will be on FOX.
